Did you know that we can’t grow new muscle fibres? So we have to look after the ones we have.
When the muscles undergo massage, there is an increase in blood supply bringing in fresh oxygen and nutrients. This aids tissue repair and recovery, re-establishing normal functioning quickly. At the same time, metabolic waste such as Co2 and lactic acid are removed.
Massage breakdown ‘knots’ - areas of muscle contraction that develop within the muscle causing fibres to adhere rather than move freely against one another. Knots develop due to tension, injury or poor posture. Everyone has knots in the trapezius in the upper back and shoulder area.
Massage increases muscle tone, protecting against wastage (atrophy) through lack of use.
